Calligraphy commissioning - how does it work?

1. You tell us what you like to do. We discuss with you your requirements

2. When you place an order with a deposit, we place the order with the artist for your artwork.

3. When the artwork is completed, we e-mail you to let you know.

4. When we have received the balance of payment, we despatch your artwork within 48 hours.

5. We aim to provide the highest level of services.

Questions:

1. How do I start?

Contact us by email to info@chinesgallery.co.uk or telephone 01737 270622 (Monday to Friday 9:30 to 12:30 UK time); or 44 1737 270622 (international)

2. Words - what are the typical writings commissioned?

Typically customer commission first names, greetings, or other special message held dear to their hearts.

3. Time - how long does it take?

It normally takes between 3 weeks to 12 weeks. This will depend on whether you want the calligraphy framed on scroll or unmounted. For best result, we leave the mounting on brocade to dry naturally before removing the artwork from the workshop.

4. Calligraphy style - do I have a choice?

Yes. Of course you have. To help you with your choice, we can also e-mail you examples of calligraphy in the styles of grass, regular and official script.

5. Silk or rice paper - on which the calligraphy artwork is done?

We generally use rice paper with or without gold flake. On request we can also have calligraphy on silk.

6. Artist signature, seal - do I have the artist signature and seal on artwork?

Of course you have. That is if you want to have the artist seal and signature on your artwork. Afterall, we commission to your requirements.

7. Brocade for a calligraphy scroll - do I have a choice?

We have a selection of nine brocades you can choose from.

8. Ink - what colour do you use?

We generally use black ink. If you prefer, it is possible that a different colour is used.

9. Artists - who are they and what are their credentials?

We have hand picked three artists for our commissioning work. We have chosen these three artists based on their quality of work, consistency and reliability. When our customer want an artwork done, they want them done to the highest standards, consistently and they want them delivered on time as per artist schedule promised. You can find out more about our commissioned artists by clicking on www.chinesegallery.com/cart/artist_1.htm

10. Size - how big or how small is the artwork?

You can have any size that you want. In general, they are 12" by 12" for unmounted calligraphy works. Calligraphy scrolls can be 48" by 14" or other sizes to meet your requirements. We advise that you give us an idea of the dimensions and then we consult the artist.

11. Cost - is it expensive to commission a piece of artwork?

No. You get exactly what you want and quality you want. It starts from £49.95 for 12" x 12" unmounted calligraphy artwork to £295 for calligraphy scroll.
